MR. CHINATOWN started as a rap song but has turned into a community lead movement to Stop Anti-Asian hate crimes and rhetoric. Surprisingly and unsurprisingly, many of these crimes have happened in San Francisco, the home of many Asian elderly people.
They say that it comes with time...
This summer, June 20th at 8:30pm to be exact…
Comes With Time (prod. Big Banana) single, accompanied by an incredible music video, will premiere on all platforms!
This music industry is full of slimy and shady characters. Labels trying to manipulate. Promoters only there when you're popping off.
In Comes With Time, my first of three hard hitting releases this summer, I explore my deep insecurities and fear of failing as an artist. Something painfully relatable for many with music aspirations like myself.
This song took me over a year from start to finish and couldn't have happened without Sunkis, Samantha Margret and of course Big Banana hyung. I hope you enjoy ~

NEW THREADS: A Collective Donation to Chinatown
Want to shop and help the community?
This May and June, EVERY purchased Son of Paper White Tee will be matched with a white Tee donation to our favorite SF nonprofits: Cameron House, CCDC and St. Anthony’s.
Order Here: https://forms.gle/1faXs1SNpWsfiTGp7
It’s been a really tough year for many and being in community is what our team misses above all. My family and I have a long and intimate history with San Francisco Chinatown. In fact, Cameron House’s Culbertson hall was the first stage that a bright eyed and a little bit overzealous SOP performed spoken word on. During Covid, Cameron House, CCDC’s Feed + Fuel Chinatown program, and St. Anthony’s meal serving programs have been critical to our people of color SF communities.
My hope is that our collective donation will inspire Chinatown youth and also provide new threads for two of San Francisco’s underserved communities.
As things begin to finally open up, I want to build on the momentum and spark joy for as many people as possible. By participating in New Threads, you can help us reach our goal of 80 donated shirts before July.

Official Video for “Soju Over Ice” by Son of Paper
Soju Over Ice is probably my favorite project I’ve ever made to date. It’s catchy and melodic with Korean and English lyrics blended a la Jay Park or Ph-1. “I miss soju but why’s it 13.99?”
The lyrics poke fun at how Asian Americans like myself put soju on a pedestal as if it’s high-class alcohol, when in reality it’s $2 or less at a convenience store in Seoul, SK. This song is a celebration of the Korean wave of music and entertainment.
Shooting the video during a pandemic was difficult but our creative work arounds made the experience and reward that much sweeter! Shout out to everyone that made this shoot possible from Director, Justin Guo, to Uncle Corey, for loaning us lion dance pants.

Tea With My Uncle Irohs Podcast Launch
Today, SOP officially launched his first podcast: TWMUI. Uncle Iroh, is a character in Avatar, who my generation has deemed the most wise and patient mentor ever. I see our world as Prince Zuko like... divided and misguided but with so much goodness trapped inside. In season 1, I sat down with my “uncles” and “aunties” to pick their brains on how to best navigate this planet with wisdom, grace and compassion.
SOP sat down with Corey and Laurene Chan, who have served the Chinatown community in San Fransisco, California for countless years. Discussing yin-yang balance, reopening Cameron House’s doors during a pandemic, and lion dancing — TWMUI’s pilot was nothing less than refreshing. Tune in every Monday morning on all podcasting services.
Woori EP Live: A Covid Relief Concert
On May 28th, 2020, Son of Paper and family hosted a FB livestream concert. All $412 dollars donated during the event went directly to Covid Relief programs for Chinatown seniors living in SRO’s. Major shout out to Chinatown CDC for turning those dollars into meals and action.
The interactive concert experience went hand in hand with the release of a five track project, titled Woori EP. Woori means “us” in Korean. SOP describes the project as an attempt to “open up a window for the listener to dive into a world where love rules supreme.” This five song project is composed of chill island vibe pop-rap and r&b tracks. SOP’s melodic verse and hook delivery is effortless and his chemistry with the array of vocal features is seamless.
